28b2ee20c7 access_process_vm device memory infrastructure
In order to be able to debug things like the X server and programs using
the PPC Cell SPUs, the debugger needs to be able to access device memory
through ptrace and /proc/pid/mem.

This patch:

Add the generic_access_phys access function and put the hooks in place
to allow access_process_vm to access device or PPC Cell SPU memory.

Of course, for non-x86, you kind of have to expect drivers to be
well-behaved, so non-x86 can probably avoid this simply because there are
less relevant drivers involved.

Here's a UNTESTED patch for x86 that may or may not compile and work, and
which serializes (on a compiler level) the IO accesses against regular
memory accesses.

__read[bwlq]()/__write[bwlq]() are not serialized with a :"memory"
barrier, although since they still use "asm volatile" I suspect that i
practice they are probably serial too. Did not look very closely at any
generated code (only did a trivial test to see that the code looks
*roughly* correct).

ef3fb66ced dmi: clean-up dmi helper declarations
The declaration of dmi helper functions is a bit messy and inconsistent at the
moment:

* On ia64 they are declared in <asm/io.h>.
* On x86-64 they are declared in <asm/dmi.h>.
* On i386 they are declared both in <asm/io.h> and <asm/dmi.h>.

Fix the header files so that the dmi helper functions are consistently
defined in <asm/dmi.h>.

b9e76a0074 x86-32: Pass the full resource data to ioremap()
It appears that 64-bit PCI resources cannot possibly ever have worked on
x86-32 even when the RESOURCES_64BIT config option was set, because any
driver that tried to [pci_]ioremap() the resource would have been unable
to do so because the high 32 bits would have been silently dropped on
the floor by the ioremap() routines that only used "unsigned long".

Change them to use "resource_size_t" instead, which properly encodes the
whole 64-bit resource data if RESOURCES_64BIT is enabled.

0947b2f31c i386 boot: replace boot_ioremap with enhanced bt_ioremap - enhance bt_ioremap
This patch makes it possible for bt_ioremap() to be used before
paging_init(), via providing an early implementation of set_fixmap()
that can be used before paging_init().

This way boot_ioremap() can be replaced by bt_ioremap().

- add the io_delay=none method
- make each method selectable from the kernel config
- simplify the delay code a bit by getting rid of an indirect function call
- add the /proc/sys/kernel/io_delay_type sysctl
- change 'io_delay=standard|alternate' to io_delay=0x80 and io_delay=0xed
- make the io delay config not depend on CONFIG_DEBUG_KERNEL

b02aae9cf5 x86: provide a DMI based port 0x80 I/O delay override.
x86: provide a DMI based port 0x80 I/O delay override.

Certain (HP) laptops experience trouble from our port 0x80 I/O delay
writes. This patch provides for a DMI based switch to the "alternate
diagnostic port" 0xed (as used by some BIOSes as well) for these.

David P. Reed confirmed that port 0xed works for him and provides a
proper delay. The symptoms of _not_ working are a hanging machine,
with "hwclock" use being a direct trigger.

Earlier versions of this attempted to simply use udelay(2), with the
2 being a value tested to be a nicely conservative upper-bound with
help from many on the linux-kernel mailinglist but that approach has
two problems.

First, pre-loops_per_jiffy calibration (which is post PIT init while
some implementations of the PIT are actually one of the historically
problematic devices that need the delay) udelay() isn't particularly
well-defined. We could initialise loops_per_jiffy conservatively (and
based on CPU family so as to not unduly delay old machines) which
would sort of work, but...

Second, delaying isn't the only effect that a write to port 0x80 has.
It's also a PCI posting barrier which some devices may be explicitly
or implicitly relying on. Alan Cox did a survey and found evidence
that additionally some drivers may be racy on SMP without the bus
locking outb.

Switching to an inb() makes the timing too unpredictable and as such,
this DMI based switch should be the safest approach for now. Any more
invasive changes should get more rigid testing first. It's moreover
only very few machines with the problem and a DMI based hack seems
to fit that situation.

This also introduces a command-line parameter "io_delay" to override
the DMI based choice again:

	io_delay=<standard|alternate>

where "standard" means using the standard port 0x80 and "alternate"
port 0xed.

This retains the udelay method as a config (CONFIG_UDELAY_IO_DELAY) and
command-line ("io_delay=udelay") choice for testing purposes as well.

This does not change the io_delay() in the boot code which is using
the same port 0x80 I/O delay but those do not appear to be a problem
as David P. Reed reported the problem was already gone after using the
udelay version. He moreover reported that booting with "acpi=off" also
fixed things and seeing as how ACPI isn't touched until after this DMI
based I/O port switch I believe it's safe to leave the ones in the boot
code be.

The DMI strings from David's HP Pavilion dv9000z are in there already
and we need to get/verify the DMI info from other machines with the
problem, notably the HP Pavilion dv6000z.

This patch is partly based on earlier patches from Pavel Machek and
David P. Reed.

622a9edd91 Remove dma_cache_(wback|inv|wback_inv) functions
dma_cache_(wback|inv|wback_inv) were the earliest attempt on a generalized
cache managment API for I/O purposes.  Originally it was basically the raw
MIPS low level cache API exported to the entire world.  The API has
suffered from a lack of documentation, was not very widely used unlike it's
more modern brothers and can easily be replaced by dma_cache_sync.  So
remove it rsp.  turn the surviving bits back into an arch private API, as
discussed on linux-arch.
